This is the third book in this series and I can honestly say that Richelle Mead has done such an amazing job, whenever I have read any of her work I have instantly fell in love with it. I recommend you give these books a try because of how amazing they are.
Rose is having to take a test for her guardian training and as she missed it as she wasn't exactly at the school, Dimitri is taking her there. However when they arrive at the destination, they are both shocked to learn that the guy who was meant to be testing her has been killed with his family. Whilst they investigate it brings back memories for Rose as it wasn't that long ago Mason was killed by the Strigoi, but Rose knows that in order for her to become the best guardian she can be for Lissa then she needs to put personal thoughts aside and to focus on what's in front of her.
With the recent events of the Strigoi attacks, they send more guardians to the Academy and the last person that Rose expected to see was her mother, which doesn't exactly go down well considering during her one training session her mothers punches her in the face.
With Lissa being a spirit user she has been struggling to control her magic, however with the power starting to overwhelm her she has started to get a darkness starting to grow inside her which is pouring itself slowly into Rose. So one day Lissa starts to slowly lose control and nearly attacks one of the Moroi, Rose makes Lissa stop what she's doing by absorbing the darkness into herself.
What will happen when there's an attack on the Academy, will any of them survive.
