After reading Black I knew that this was only the start of the series and now after reading Violet I seriously need more. Whenever I read anything by Elin Peer you can actually see how incredible her writing is, the way her stories are written captivate you into them and it will leave you wanting to know more even after you get to the end of the book. This book is a lot different to Black and whilst it has such a different story, you can actually see that the message that Elin is putting into her writing. I wouldn’t be able to pick out of the two for there to be a favourite as honestly they are both equally as incredible as each other. Throughout this book I was hooked and didn’t want to put it down.
Violet has never had an easy life, one being the fact she can speak and see the living dead and then there’s the fact that her parents seem to think that she has a sickness . However that doesn’t exactly stop her from becoming her own person, she has her own house and uses her gift to help find missing children, help people move on into the afterlife. Whilst all this is happening she doesn’t seem to be having too much luck in the love department as the guy she’s been crushing on is her brother’s best friend Jake, who she’s known for years and being honest in her eyes he doesn’t see her as anything more than just her brother’s annoying little sister. Although her crush that she’s had for years isn’t helping matters considering it’s been over 13 years and her crush hasn’t vanished, so when she ends up doing a job that requires their paths to cross it doesn’t make her life any simpler. There is only a few people that know of her gift, yet whilst they don’t understand it, they stick with her because they care about her. So when Jake doesn’t want to acknowledge her gift or how things are for her it really gets to her and surly that can’t be easy on her. Now I would go into more detail but honestly where’s the fun in that. I strongly suggest that you pick this book up and give it a read for yourself as honestly Elin’s writing is incredible.
