Belinda White is a new author to me, I’ve never tried her work before, but after seeing the cover for All Too Familiar and reading the blurb, I knew I had to give this a read. For me I think this book had a lot of potential, I liked some of the ideas, but in a way I think that the blurb and the cover oversold this a little. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed giving it a read as it seemed like a book you could sit there and cozy up to, but at the same time I found it to be a little slow in places and not really seeing the point in a few things. Plus, I do think that the blurb is a little misleading, it states in the blurb that Amethyst (Amie) is the one that is set to prove her aunt’s name when she’s accused of murder, however when you’re reading the book it pretty much brushes over the fact that she was accused…. For me, if you’re going to suggest something that goes on in the book then the best thing to do would be to make sure it matches up with the contents that are inside.
There’s another point that I think was entirely missed out, I know that most people call the lead character Amie, but it’s not that obvious what her actual name is and you have to go searching for it if you want to get her full name. For me, that doesn’t work, I’d much rather know what her actual name is and even if most people use a nickname for her, it would be handy having at least one regular character or even a few side characters who actually use her proper name, that way it seems a little more realistic.
I also found it a little too unrealistic that they found the murderer in literally 2/3 days, as there was hardly any evidence and as a town that has witches in it, surely it would have taken a little longer to figure out who was the culprit. But otherwise I do think that this was an interesting book and I would be interested in reading the next one and finding out what happens with Amie and her familiar.
Amie is in one of the most powerful families that you could imagine for a witch, but there’s a small downside…… she hardly has any access to the magic that the rest of her family have which makes her the black sheep in the family if you want to call it that. But she has a knack for getting to the bottom of things and is currently doing everything she can to get her licence so that she can become a PI….. So when her aunt is accused of murder Amie is determined to figure out who it was that tried to set her aunt up, but she’s in store for a shock when she starts digging to get answers. Will she like what she finds out and are her and her family in danger?
