It’s been a while since Melanie Harlow has given us something new and refreshing, i.e. a brand new series, and after reading this one I do think that she’s done a good job. I can see that her writing style has changed a little compared to the other series she’s written, but honestly I do think that it’s good she’s branched out a little… I enjoyed the story and the plot, however there was some things missing and left unanswered in the air. For example, Blair, when she came into the book and into Griffin’s life (well, once she came around) she made out that she had this family that was so overbearing and had no faith in her that she could do anything, that she should just come home and accept fait by going ahead and marrying someone who only cared about themselves and become a trophy wife. But throughout the book, there’s mentions of her mother still being a pain to her, and basically throwing a strop because Blair is actually standing on her own two feet… But there’s never any mention of the outcome of how the relationship between them both is in the end, you don’t get to find out if Blair cuts her mom out of her life completely, or if her mother decided that actually Blair is a grown up and can do what she wishes with her life and ends up supporting the choices she’s made. You don’t get to know any of that and honestly, it’s a shame because the whole point of Blair running away is because of how her family treated her and how she was embarrassed to be part of their lives after the whole financial scandal came about.
There’s a few other small bits, but I’m not going to mention them because I’d hate to ruin the story for anyone. Overall the plot was good, the characters were interesting and likeable.
This is a new series that I would recommend taking a chance on, it might be something you end up loving.
Griffin is happy where he is, he’s got his own business (courtesy of his late father as it’s a family business), he’s got his own place and other than his overbearing mother and sister, he couldn’t be happier alone. However, when Blair comes crashing into the small town he lives in with a bang, and he ends up catching her when she faints, his whole world comes tumbling down.
Blair has virtually no money, no where to stay and no idea what to do, what turned out to be a great spontaneous idea of getting out of her old life and starting a new, isn’t starting to look so good. So when Griffin offers her a place to stay for the night, she can’t believe her luck… However when things start to get complicated in terms of Blair’s car, will Griffin be able to figure everything out so that she can go on out of town??? And how well will the locals take to the fact that in their eyes Blair and Griffin got married… even though they didn’t??? How will they take to her turning up out of the blue and disrupting the melody that they are used too??
