Just by looking at the title of this book I wasn’t exactly sure what I would expect when I started to read it, but I know by now that any of Harper Bliss’s work was going to be pretty awesome. I have to agree that it was, it only took me a few hours to read it but that was because I was so engrossed with the story, normally when I’m reading I have to take a few breaks so that I’m not making my eyes strain however with this book I think I only took about two breaks but even then I still wanted to know what I was going to find throughout the book. I’m always shocked with what I read by Harper as the way she captures the story is just breathe taking.
In this book we learn that Laura has chosen to move to Texas to escape her past but to also be there for her Aunt, in a way Laura feels that this is the best option for her despite what happened in the past. It’s not until just about half way through the book we learn why she escaped to Texas and as much as I would love to tell you I don’t want to ruin it for anyone. The last thing that Laura felt was that she was going to be able to love anyone again, but after her parents cast her away just because she was born with the fact of loving the same gender as her she knows what it’s like to have no one but her Aunt there for her. For a good while it’s pretty certain that either luck or nothing has just planned out for her in a way that it should of, but due to past events she is eating at all the guilt that she is carrying. When she happens to bump into Tess she isn’t sure of what to make of the whole ordeal because to her she prefers being on her own as it blocks out some of the pain but also because she is too frightened to let anyone in or open up. So it’s good to see her debating about what she wants when it comes to Tess, I honestly was rooting for Tess and Laura to end up together because Tess is the strong one out of them both and refuses to let Laura take any of the blame that she reckons she deserves even though Tess doesn’t know the truth she is willing to be there for her friend.
Weeks come and go but everyone can see that the pair are developing such a blooming friendship, but even though they aren’t together you can’t deny the attraction and the chemistry that’s between them. Slowly by slowly Laura is opening up to Tess but she is afraid of what she has done in the past will be there forever so no matter how big her feelings are for Tess she refuses to let Tess linger and wait for her, yet she gets a surprise pang of jealousy in her system when Tess is talking to another women who could potentially be interested in her. Everything seems to be going so well for both Tess and Laura but surly everyone knows that good luck or things can only last so long, so when it becomes clear that Laura’s Aunt didn’t make it due to her head injury, it crushes Laura to pieces, however that’s only the start of what’s to happen. I’d love to tell you if things go back up and that Laura’s life gets any simpler but honestly I’d rather you take a look for yourselves. I hope that you’ll love it as much as I do.
