This book is the first one that I have read by this author and I can honestly say that I fell in love with the book as soon as I started to read it.
Annie is twenty one years old but has felt that the past six years that there is something missing, but she can't exactly work out what it is. Her mom passed away, her brother decided to move across the country and not have much contact with her and then her dad has become very distant. Other than that she is in college and has been with her boyfriend Jeff for the past three years who has been quite helpful when she's needed it, but over the past few months Annie has felt that there isn't really a connection with him anymore as when she sees him she doesn't feel the spark that should be there.
A week after one of her neighbours passing Annie happens to notice on the way to final exam for the Christmas term that there are some new people moving into the street and just as she thought that she could get away without being noticed that she was taking a look, her eyes happen to lock with a girl around her age but she can't seem to tear her eyes away from her. After a few minutes Annie realises that she needs to head to her exam but she can't seem to shake the girl from her thoughts all day.
Later on when she arranges to see Jeff she honestly can't take anything in that he's saying as all that is running through her mind is the girl from her street, but just because she is struggling to pay attention Jeff gets annoyed with her and just walks away. By the time that she gets back she feels really guilty for what happened whilst with Jeff and when he rings later on to see if he can come over, she feels like she can't face him. Sometime later Annie ends up speaking to the girl and she finds out that her name is Gemma and she ends up inviting Annie over to her house the weekend for a party with her family and Annie ends up saying yes even though she has no clue what's going on.
What will happen between the two girls or will it be lead to heartache and what will Jeff think of Annie spending time with Gemma. The only way you are going to know is if you pick up this book, I am honestly glad that I had the chance to read it because this is some amazing work and I would happily pick up another book written by Emelia Ryder.
