I’ve read a lot of Melanie Harlow’s work before and I really do love her writing, but Corinne Michaels is a new author to me, I’ve heard about her work, but this is the first time actually diving into one of her books. I was intrigued to see how well their writing combined and flowed together and I did think that their writing compliments each other. The book was a good read, it had interesting plots and the characters were different.
Honestly, there was a few things I found with this book that honestly, I didn’t think worked well for me, but I know for a fact that people are going to have different opinions.
Here are the things that for me didn’t exactly work as they stood out a bit too much for my liking.
This time I do have to say that whilst I did like Willow, I found her to be a weak character at times. I get that when you’re in love and it’s something new, you can help but be lost in the beginning, it’s something new, exciting, but I found her to be pretty weak, she could be strong when she wanted to be, but not always in the right moments. I think that both Melanie and Corinne could have done a lot more for Willow because she is a bright, charming pretty girl, even though she hasn’t fully learned how to be as successful as her mom, she is still doing pretty well, but she still has a lot of potential as a character. As for Reid I did think he was an interesting character but still at the same time I found myself at parts just wanting to full on punch him because of how stupid and irrational he was being.
Honestly, it’s not often when I find that I’m not a lover of both characters completely when it comes to Melanie’s books, but because this was a co-written book, I found it a lot harder to like them both because I know that both Melanie and Corinne have very different styles of writing, and with this being the first time of me reading anything by Corinne I think it’s a lot harder for me to form a connection with her characters as it’s something new to me.
Willow doesn’t exactly like her sister, but whilst she can’t exactly avoid her at work, I don’t seem to understand why Willow would go to her for advice or to hang out with her when she’s not in work. For me it doesn’t make sense as you get to see how Willow feels about her, and you also get a glimpse into Willow’s past about how bad things were between the two of them when they were younger and forced to share a room. Even at this point in time, her sister still finds ways of getting on her nerves and Willow can’t seem to stand that, so for me I just don’t see why this would be the case. Don’t get me wrong, say if her sister went ahead and decided to invade her home and turn up invited, then that would make way more sense to me, as her sister seems like that type of person.
I can understand that this wasn’t the final version of the book, so with that being said there was always going to be some typos errors throughout the story and I did see that there was a note of that in the beginning of book, yet for some reason I found there to be a number of errors that shouldn’t have been seen and for me I found that it ruined the story a little. I know that before a book is final some things do tend to get missed but when it’s released pretty much everything has been found and fixed, but for me this time round I just found too many which had an effect on the story, with that being said this isn’t going to have an effect on the review, it was just the case I found it to be a small issue that was noticeable for me.
When it came to the last couple of chapters and the epilogue, I found that they were a bit rushed, there wasn’t enough details for me. If anything, it seemed as if by the time both Melanie and Corinne got towards the end that they just wanted to be done by the book, I’m sure that’s not the case, but honestly it just felt rushed towards the end. I really wanted more details of how things would develop, plus with Willow wanting to go ahead and have a baby pretty much through the entire book, it would have been nice to have seen how things went, it would have been good to have seen how Reid’s final reactions were about it all because we all know how strong he was about Willow’s entire plan but sadly I was left a little disappointed with how they ended up rounding things.
The last thing that stood out for me, I found that this book seemed a lot similar to one of Melanie’s previous books, other than Reid being her best friend and him not having a child already, as neither of these was the case in her other book, I found this book to have so many similarities. I know in a way, that most books are pretty much the same concept but just different ways of doing things, but this one had too many similarities for it to just follow the basic role in books. Because of it being pretty similar, I found myself not having as much interest as I would of liked in this book, but I kept reading to the end because I was only slightly intrigued to see how it would play out.
Honestly, this book had a lot of potential, but it didn’t exactly live up to that. I wish that really wasn’t the case, but unfortunately it was. If both Melanie and Corinne write more books together, I’d be interesting in reading them because I would love to see if their writing can improve, they both seem to be very talented writers, but I do feel like this one let them down a little, had things been done a little differently, I do think that this would have been pretty incredible.
Willow and Reid have been best friends for years, the fact that they are neighbours in the same building and floor makes it even that much easier for their friendship, they’ve always been there for each other as long as they can remember.
Willow’s mom owns a dating match service company and she’s extremely good at her job, she has Willow working there as well as Willow’s sister. Whilst Willow is good at her job, she’s not exactly doing well when it comes to setting up perfect matches, so when her mom puts the idea out there that she wants to retire and sell the business this upsets Willow deeply because this is something she loves and doesn’t want to see it leave the family. When her mom puts her to the test of finding the perfect match for Reid she knows she’s got a challenge ahead of her. But at the same time in order for her to succeed and prove her mom wrong that she can do this, her friendship with Reid is put to the test. Will Willow be able to find Reid the perfect match and be able to save her job or will everything come crashing down and blowing way out of proportion?
