Anytime I pick up anything by Bella Emy, she never ceases to amaze me and yet again she’s done just that. It’s like every time I pick up one of her stories it’s like I’m reading her work for the very first time, as if I’m just discovering her and I love that’s how she makes my reading experience.
As soon as I started reading this, I was gripped because the story just wrapped itself around me and honestly I was impressed. I know that this book is part of K. Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes Worlds Project, but I loved how Bella incorporated some of her characters from her previous books, it made the book feel a little more personal to her and that shined through her writing so much.
I never get tired or enough of reading her work as it’s always just incredible.
I honestly can’t fault anything in the book because it was well thought out and you can tell just from the writing that Bella poured her heart and soul in it.
I did feel for Maddox quite a bit, as when he was made to leave, it wasn’t just because he was going after something all that mighty, but because he didn’t want to loose his career. But I can understand the heartbreak that he felt when he got back and discovered that his two best friends were together, that can’t have been easy on him, I know from personal experiences that it’s not easy to go through daily seeing someone you care for, who you think of as yours, being with someone else. But there’s a lot of surprises in this book that I never saw coming.
I honestly recommend that you give this a try because it’s such a heart-breaking story, but it’s so worth the read.
Adelyn. She is such a beauty and she was close with Maddox before he got transferred out of the county… However, now that he’s back it’s clear life has changed, but Maddox honestly didn’t see it coming that Adelyn was no longer his and that she was now in the hands of his best friend. It hits him hard, but he knows for a fact that he can’t ever let his feeling out loud in person, especially to his best friend. As things progress with both Rick and Adelyn, Maddox is just breaking on the inside, so he decides to hold back and see them both less and less, but as things take a turn for the worse whilst on the job with Rick, will everything work out in the end???
What happens when it becomes apparent that his father is ill??? Will Maddox push everything down and go and see him or is everything too late???
