Shauna Mc Donnell is a brand new author to me and as this is her debut novel, I was excited to give this book a read as I love discovering new authors. I was drawn in by the fact that this was partly to do with Ireland and also because the blurb was intriguing to me and honestly, after giving this book a read I was impressed.
The story was pretty gripping so even if you wanted to put it down for a moment to do something, you couldn’t help but want to get back into reading and seeing what was about to happen next, I love that Shauna managed to find a way to grip her audience as I know that when show your work to the public for the first time the nerves are just overwhelming. I enjoyed the story, enjoyed the characters and found the plot fairly simple but for me that worked perfectly. I had a feeling before I even got to the end of the first chapter that this book had a lot of potential and Shauna gave the story character. Now whilst I enjoyed the story and didn’t have any issues following along or keeping up with the plot, I do have to say that for me (I’m sure that people will either agree with me or they’ll have their own opinion), but I did think that the story moved along quite quickly. When I’m reading a book I prefer to have a little more to latch onto so that I can get a feel of what the characters are experiencing, and whilst that was the case at times I did find that some of the things were a little too farfetched. Yet at the same time I did see how some of the events or experiences were realistic.
I am looking forward to seeing what else Shauna can come up with because her ideas are interesting and that was the case with this book. She knows how to draw you in, but honestly I do think that with each book she writes she will progress.
Valentines day is the one day that some people dread (well, that is if you’re single), but for most people who are in a happy place with their perfect someone it can be a romantic occasion and that’s what Ella thought as she was happy with life and in her eyes she had found the perfect guy…. But everything got turned upside down when she walked into her boyfriend’s apartment and saw him cheating on her. So after ending it and walking away, the perfect thing to help take her mind of it all is to go out drinking with her best friend. She’s dressed to impress, so when the opportunity arises to spend the night with a handsome musician little does she realise that everything is set to change in her path, no one could predict what is about to happen but one perfect night turns into something she’ll never forget.
