With Broken Instrument releasing soon enough, I knew that I had to get caught up on this series because so far I’ve enjoyed the first three books that Kelsie Rae has written and thought that she’s done a good job at bringing these characters to life.
I know that in a way that these books can be read as standalones, but truthfully I prefer to read them in order as then I get the full feel of everything that’s actually happening and I’m not missing out on bits.
I’ve actually been looking forward to Jake’s story as honestly I did feel for him as he had his whole life ahead of him, yet after being rejected by the girl who he loved yet never made it known he did broke him and it’s clear that he has been on a path of self-destruct.
He is such a nice guy and a good one at that, but it’s clear that the effects of the past have haunted him dearly, he doesn’t want love yet what some people don’t realise is that love tends to creep up on you when you least expect it and it can do many things to you.
I think that Evie is a sweet girl, but she’s a little indecisive, considering her father isn’t exactly pleased with her as of lately. He wants her to choose a path and live with it, but still I feel like her father is a bit harsh on her considering he should want her to be happy with whoever she falls in love with. But overall I feel like she was taken advantage of quite a lot because of who her family was, and that’s not always fair as you can never tell who is genuinely her friend or if they’re just using her for her connections.
But I do love how bold she was when she knew what she wanted to go after and it was pretty awesome.
Overall, I think this book had pretty much everything that you could want from a book, and it was an enjoyable read. I am impressed with the level of talent that Kelsie has and find myself wanting to keep reading her work.
I couldn’t fault the story and even though it had characters you couldn’t help but want to just punch, it all did tie in together quite well.
If you’re a fan of either this series or Kelsie’s work then I’d suggest giving this book a read, especially as this one is all about Jake.
For as long as he has known Milo for, he respected their friendship enough so that he didn’t destroy it even though he’s been in love with his sister for years… Yet when it became clear to him that he was just nothing more than the safe guy and that nothing would ever happen, it literally broke him. He had his whole life ahead of him, he was doing so well with his Master’s, but it all nearly came crashing down after everything he nearly ended up throwing it away himself.
Now that he’s doing his best to keep love out of his life and just keeping a string of girls in and out of his bedroom, the last person he expects to jump into his lap (and quite literally) is Evie, she’s a sweet girl but it’s clear there’s also something in her that he can’t seem to get enough of.
So when he finds out that Evie may hold a way into getting what he wants in terms of the internship at the dream place he wants to work at, he knows that he can’t not take the chance to go for it. Yet, it seems that not everything is going to be as straight forward as both Evie and Jake hope.
Will Jake be able to get the internship of his dreams or will it be set to be taken from him before he’s even done anything???
Will Evie be able to trick her family and her ex-boyfriend that she is well and truly over him when she brings Jake to the family retreat or will they see straight through it all???
