When James was first introduced back in his sister’s book, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, but I knew for a fact he wasn’t my favourite character, so I was interested to see how his book would turn out. And I have to say that I’m actually surprised with how this turned out, but still it showed me that Amanda Siegrist knows how to write such a magical Christmas book, and with each book I’ve read I’ve just loved the series more and more.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book, but I do like that Amanda chose to give James his own story considering he is a big part to his sisters life, but still it was great but heart-breaking getting to experience everything that James was dealt with. If anything I have to say that Amanda did justice telling his story and I loved every minute of it, plus I loved how Amanda redeemed him considering he wasn’t that likeable in the beginning when he’s introduced in books earlier. I thought he growed as a character and that he was doing his best to try and just get on with his life, he was still going to have his inner battles, but that just made him true to his character.
I honestly couldn’t fault this book and loved everything and everyone in it, with each book it’s showing me that Amanda is just talented and she’s growing as a writer, but that being said, I know for a fact that I won’t stop reading her books as she knows how to pull her readers in.
If you love Christmassy reads, then you should check out this book, or if you was intrigued by James before, then be sure to give this a read as you’ll find out what happens with him and how far along he’s progressed.
James was essentially known as the town’s troublemaker, not only did he like to cause problems, but he’d go ahead and steal from his sister just because he had a drinking problem. However, now that his drinking days are behind him, he’s been sober ever since he entered rehab, has his own sponsor and is doing well for himself in terms of holding down a job, he couldn’t be any happier, yet the highlight of his days is when he gets to see and speak to Erin.
Everything was going well until it wasn’t, not only does he end up losing his job after being framed for something that he didn’t do but the people in the town presume that just because he has a record anything bad happens then it must be him, he figures that he’d never get a girl like Erin as he’s just a loser.
Deciding that he’s going to leave town as he can’t stand to be the towns gossip anymore, plus it’s not like anyone will listen to him in regards to the hospital, he makes a plan of what he needs to do in terms of his affairs before he leaves after Christmas.
When his sponsor encourages him to go ahead and use his cabin for some time away so that he can escape everyone for a little while, but also so that he’s not tempted to try and revert back to drinking, he ends up taking him on his offer… but he’s in for a surprise when he receives an unexpected visitor.
With no one not meant to know where he is, who is his visitor, and will it be enough to make him realise that he doesn’t have to go anywhere???
Will James end up relapsing and choosing to drink to cope over what the town is saying about him?? And will the real culprit of who stole from the hospital be found or will it stick with James being the one blamed???
