This is my first time reading anything by this author, and she’s a completely new author to me. I thought I’d give her work a read and see if her work was something I would be interested in reading in the future. After a tough start as I did struggle to get into the book in the beginning, but that was most likely due to the fact that I struggled with it being in third person, I did end up enjoying the story. Reading books in the third person is something that I don’t particularly enjoy, I much prefer to read a book with it being written from the characters point directly, it’s just something I’ve always preferred. However, that doesn’t mean the book was bad, nope… if anything I think that Susan did pretty well with the story, after chapter six is when I was completely drawn more into the story and I couldn’t actually put the book down because I was intrigued to see what the outcome of the story would be. I found myself, being able to understand Gwen a lot, because I have been through something similar, some of the details are different, but I could relate to her, and I love it when an author can go ahead and make the reader be able to relate to the characters.
The one other thing that didn’t sit well with me in this book is how Aiden treated Gwen… Something happened back in college with Gwen and due to that incident, she happens to doubt and question a lot of things, she doesn’t think that she deserves anything good to happen to her. However, the one-time her and Aiden have a huge fight and instead of sticking by his original words, he chooses to contradict himself and go back on everything he said before, to me this makes him to be a weak character, because he knows of her past, so her outbursts are completely understandable. Other than that, I couldn’t fault the book and I do think that Susan is an author whose work I would read again.
Gwen is a smart girl, however she’s quiet, doubts herself and is extremely shy. She’s just starting a new job and as she’ll be working from the bottom, she has no idea what to expect. She’s been through a lot and now she just wants to get on with her life and finally get somewhere in the real world. After being put in the mail room she doesn’t think there’ll be much going on, so when she happens to come across a letter, the problem is the recipient doesn’t have a place for where their mail goes…. So, after being told to take it up to their office, she can’t help but be stunned by the owner of who it belongs to. A few days later, she ends up being promoted to be Aiden Maxwell’s PA’s PA, she has no idea what’s going on and whilst she appreciates that she’s been given an amazing opportunity, she has no idea what Aiden’s intentions are.
