This book has so much potential and after reading what happened in the first book, you can’t help but be intrigued by Walker’s story. I do think that Carrie Aarons had the right ideas and the writing flowed quite beautifully, but at the same time there’s a few things that stood out to me and if they’d been thought about a little more they could have been executed perfectly.
Firstly, Shane made such a big deal of Walker going after Hannah or having anything to do with her, he threatened her maybe once or twice about it, but even still I never understood why after making such a big deal about it he ended up not following through with his threats about Walker. If anything, if someone is so hyped up on getting revenge or even attempt to go after someone, a good number of people would most likely follow up on that threat. For me, I just found that this didn’t work too well, I get Shane was annoyed that there was a restraining order against him, he’d been kicked off the baseball team after what he did to Hannah and there was the fact that he could see Hannah wasn’t going to fall for his tricks like she’d done in the past, but that being said, I just found that whilst Shane was pretty evil, it still lacked in him. I expected a bit more from him, but that never really happened.
It would have been interesting to have known what happened in the end with the girls from the salon that Hannah worked at, as in the middle of the book some of them just outright spoke badly about her even though she was in the vicinity. I get that people was going to judge Hannah for who she is, who she married and the circumstances, but even still it would have been interesting to have known if the girls actually warmed to her in the end and apologised for gossiping with the clients or if they just carried on badmouthing her or even possibly moving salon.
Even though they’re just small details, it would have been interesting finding them out because in a way they do have an impact on the story.
Other than those, I do think the story worked and I feel that this book may actually reach out to people if they’re experiencing what Hannah went through. I know that domestic abuse is a sensitive topic and that people can find it hard to either see that it’s happening to them or even to just leave the relationship they are in, but sometimes books can either be an escape for them or may be their way out of the situation they’re in. I do think that Carrie nailed this topic quite well and should be proud of how this story has come out.
I’d highly recommend that you give this a try because this is a great and inspiring read.
After the attack in the parking lot of the Packton Pistons, Hannah knew that she had to get out of her marriage in order to save her and her two children. For so long she had stayed with Shane because she didn’t want her two daughters to grow up in a broken home and thought they needed their father. But after that night when Walker took her to the hospital she knew things were going to change and she had to save herself. Fast forward a month and she’s trying to deal with the assulat charge and is considering divorcing Shane, when all of a sudden Walker shows up out the blue to the condo she’s stopping in. It’s thanks to Colleen that she is able to stay there, but still Walker shouldn’t even know.
Walker has been in love with Hannah for the last 6 years, the day of the wedding rehearsal he just shut off his feelings and hid them away so no one could see. But after the attack he just can’t keep it quiet anymore. He wants a life with her, but at the same time he has no idea if she’s ready for one with him or if she even has feelings for him.
Will Hannah realise that Walker is just what she needs or will she crumble and give into Shane and go back to him???
