I’ve been following Max Monroe for a short period of time and with the covers they have for their books it’s hard to not be intrigued by their work. I picked up this book due to the fact their cover was eye-catching, the title drew me in and also for the fact that the blurb was interesting and made me want to read more. However, for me it seems that whilst they both know how to market their work, they oversold this book and honestly for me it just doesn’t seem all that worth it. With a book, you want everything to be perfect, you want to have an eye-catching cover that will attract readers, a title that will make readers question if they want to read it, a blurb that excites people and make them want to find out what happens and of course the content of the story to actually be so amazing and drawable to the readers that they can’t help but want more. But in this case Max Monroe haven’t delivered that. I found so many issues with the story when I first dived in, the intro of where you’re introduced to someone who the books not even about, I’m sorry but for me I don’t see the point, the intro had nothing to do with the story/plot or anything that was about to take place, if anything it was just someone trying to show off. If you’re going to have a few pages to get the readers in the mood for the story then you want to make sure it makes sense, that it’s something to do with the main characters of who the book is based on, not some random guy who honestly doesn’t need to be mentioned.
Then there’s the fact that because the book couldn’t keep my attention I only made it to the end of chapter one, now I know most people would think that it’s best to keep reading until about 20% or something like that to give the book a fair chance, but honestly no matter how hard I tried, the book couldn’t keep my attention, there was nothing in the first chapter keeping me from wanting to see what else would happen. If anything it was so slow and unrealistic that I just couldn’t wait to put the book down. The first chapter is very important, you want to keep the readers from putting the book down but in this case the authors couldn’t achieve that. Even looking back at some of the reviews that have been posted, some of the other reviewers think the same as me and that’s shocking in a way as I know that most people would be giving this book 4/5 stars. Don’t get me wrong, this book has the potential to do well, but the authors just couldn’t execute that. I know there’s going to be a huge portion of people that are going to blasting these low rating reviews, but at the end of the day everyone is allowed their own opinion and for me this book just didn’t do it for me. However, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go ahead and try this book for yourself, for all I know there’s people out there that may love the way this book has been done, but still you should go ahead and form your own opinion. At this current moment in time, I’m not sure if I’ll be picking up any more of their work as I’m not fully sure it’s for me. I’d like to say maybe one day in the future but I can’t say for sure that’s going to be the case.
