Cat Carmine is a new author to me and being honest I was hooked to this book because of the cover and the blurb and after reading the blurb, I just knew that I wanted to read this book. When I got to reading it I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, but I found myself struggling with the book from the very first chapter. What didn’t help is that by the time I started chapter two, I saw that the author had pretty much repeated what had happened in the first chapter, the only difference was it was from a different prospective and there was a few more details that were given. My first thought was that I hoped that the rest of the book wasn’t going to be each chapter repeating what had happened in the previous chapter, but luckily it was only within the first two chapters. Had they been done differently and so that you wasn’t backtracking on what you’d read, I do think that I would have been more invested into the story.
Throughout the story I found myself losing focus, there wasn’t anything there to just make me think that this is really good and that I need to keep going as it’s pretty juicy. It didn’t have that WOW factor that you normally expect to find in books, don’t get me wrong, the author can write, there’s nothing wrong with her writing, but to me it does seem like the blurb and the cover oversold the book way more than it should have.
At times I did think the story picked up, but only so slightly, but then it would just make me lose interest again. I’m sure that others will think a lot different from me when it comes to this book, but at the end of the day, we all have our own opinions. So, if you don’t want to take anything I’ve said, then grab this book yourself and judge it on what you think.
Lucy and Connor have known each other for years, so when her brother Kyle suggests that Connor goes ahead and lives with her as he’s back in the city and looking for somewhere to crash until he’s back on his feet, surely that would have been something so easy and simple…. It’s not like their strangers or anything, so what could go wrong.
They both have their own things going on, and are trying to get over people, so when Connor suggests that he can help her get over her ex by making a bet with her, sounds easy enough, but then she sees a whole new side to him that she can’t work out if she likes or not. Will either of them win the bet they make or is it set to fail from the start?
