When I picked up this book I honestly thought that the story would have something to do with the name (The Rookie) but I found that Logan wasn’t really a Rookie as from my own personal opinion if you’re a Rookie you tend to end up being the one that is at the bottom of the chain and your work friends/team players end up having this banter and they end up calling you the Rookie as you’re quite new to it all. However it seems that the story didn’t reflect with the title as Logan was pretty experienced with playing hockey, he just seemed to not have in the right place and whilst this was his first time being in such a high profile team he still knows all the basics and different levels when it comes to hockey.
It doesn’t mean that I didn’t enjoy the story as I did like getting to read about another member of this series, it’s just that for me the title didn’t actually reflect on the story.
I did like how this took a different direction to the other books as it seemed a lot more homely and the emotions were quite raw and it felt like you could feel what the characters were experiencing.
I couldn’t work out if I actually liked Logan as a character as he just seemed a bit standoffish, it did take me a while to warm up to him a little though, however after reading this book it seems like Kendall could expand with this series even more as now you’ve got all of Logan’s brothers as they did play a big part in the story. I have no idea if Kendall will ever explore down that path or just stick with the players on the team, but it would sure be interesting if she did though.
I did think Summer was quite a sweet but strong character, she isn’t willing to take any crap from anyone and I love that as it shows she’s not a pushover. I can’t help but feel for her as she is literally on her own and whilst it does bother her at times, she’s not willing to stop pursing her dreams.
Overall I thought that this was a good story and I’m excited to see what happens next with the series.
I’d recommend giving this a try as Kendall can write pretty captivating books and if you’ve never read her work before then you may end up being gripped by this one.
Logan never thought that he would get the chance the play hockey in the big leagues, so when it’s finally his time to go ahead and shine it seems to get too much for him. With him struggling to come to terms of losing his dad the past summer and not being able to get out of his mind it is starting to affect his game which leads to him starting fights.
However, with this last one becoming a lot more serious, his coach ends up suspending him for eight games and he can only come back if he’s signed off by a counsellor. Not liking the idea of talking to someone and opening up, he ends up going back to his family where they are all in the remote mountains of Colorado.
However, when Summer turns up determined to get him the help he needs so that he can go back to the team she is met by the most arrogant stubborn ever. She never expected Logan to appear as if he hated her, but even still she isn’t going to stop until she knows she can get him to agree.
Will Summer be able to get the job done and to chase her dream?
Will Logan be stubborn the entire time Summer is there or will he warm up to her?
