With this being the last book in the series, I was quite interested in seeing how Melanie Harlow would conclude it all… and honestly I was actually surprised but loved the story. From what I’ve gathered in the previous three books, Beckett seemed to be pretty quiet and didn’t exactly involve himself much with the other guys, yes he’d hang out with them, but you’d mainly either have one of the other three talking the most. So getting to see things from his prospective was really fun, it’s clear that he has a lot going on which is why he doesn’t tend to be as outgoing as the rest of his friends, with him devoting his time to either the farm or looking after his dad it’s understandable that he’s got a lot on his plate. You can’t help but feel for him, plus with the fact he’s all on his own, it just makes your heart break for him even more. It’s clear that he deserves happiness, but in his mind he doesn’t ever see a long term thing ever happening.
I think that Melanie did an amazing job at telling Becketts story and I just loved every minute of it, don’t get me wrong there was points in the book where I just wanted to scream at Beckett for some of the choices he made, but at the same time I was just so invested in the story that I wanted to see how things would go.
I can’t actually fault this story, it was well thought and written and I just loved the characters.
The one thing that stood out to me and I loved how Melanie incorporated this into the story was with Maddie’s son Elliot, he is still finding himself and even though he’s six, Maddie doesn’t mind if he wants to wear dresses and the colour pink and then the next day he’s wearing jeans and wanting to go out and play in the mud. The fact that his dad thought of him as weak because of the things he liked was just horrible and must have been really hard on Elliot. With the way that society is nowadays it’s hard being able to wear or do things that makes you comfortable, so the fact that Maddie was trying to teach Elliot that it was okay with the things he wanted to wear or do was incredible as it was teaching him such a good lesson. But overall, I loved how Melanie breached the topic and made it into a lesson.
I’d recommend giving this a read because it’s such a great book and it’s such a great way to round up the series overall.
Beckett is the last of his friends to still be single, with Cole’s wedding approaching in two weeks, it means that all of three of them will be happily married and Beckett will be at home with his dad and working on the farm. To Beckett, he seems content with life, he doesn’t believe that love stick around and that it’s made to hurt. However, with his childhood friend Maddie, staying with him for the next two weeks as she’s planning on fixing up her old home and then who knows what. However, with her coming to stay he’s trying to calm his nerves as he’s had a huge crush on her since they were 17. Yet, when he first lays eyes on her he is blown away by how beautiful she is and all of the feelings he had when he used to be around her come creeping back in.
He never made a move all those years ago, and he’s afraid that if he makes one now either she’s going to brush him away or they’ll ruin their friendship.
With both of his friends and their wives thinking that the inevitable is, will he go ahead and take the chance or will he be too afraid and hide behind it all???
With secrets between the two of them, will they reveal them or keep them to themselves????
