I was intrigued to see what would happen with this book, the first one in the series was a great read, but this one I’m not sure what to make of it. Melanie Harlow is a talented writer, however I found this book to be too predictable, I didn’t really like how the flashbacks were portrayed because at times it got a little confusing, had they been done a little differently, I think that they could have worked pretty well and I would of found them more enjoyable to read. I found the lead female (Chloe) to not be as strong as I would have liked, I get that things were difficult for her when it came to Oliver, but still she should still have been able to have some resistance and to know whether or not she could trust Oliver.
Back in the first book in this series, you saw Chloe and Frannie build up a relationship and I loved that as it showed a completely different side to Chloe, but then in this book it’s like that relationship that got built up between them just evaporates and instead you see her confining more in one of her other sisters. Surely, if you’ve built up a relationship with someone, then it’s best to build on that in books to follow, but that’s not really happened here.
The only other thing was that, in a way I found this book to be pretty to predictable, normally I’m left guessing with what’s going to happen, but that wasn’t the case this time, I was pretty much guessing what was about to happen before it did.
As for Oliver, I do think that he was written pretty well, there’s guys in real life who like to go about and still act like a jerk and I think Melanie did nail how she wrote him. He’s an arrogant rich kid but at the same time whilst he drove me insane what Melanie did with him worked perfectly. It got a reaction out of you, which I know an author loves doing.
I did love how Chloe and Oliver had a history, whilst when they was younger it was pretty sweet, as they got older you could see the chemistry between them, yet at the same time it was hard to read about it because Chloe could have been such an amazing character had she learned to grow a backbone when it came to Oliver.
The plot was okay, but for me I think it could be have taken in such a different direction and would of worked wonders. It’s a shame really because I really did enjoy reading the first one in this series, I’m hoping that the next one will be great and will make me enjoy it a lot more. Melanie’s work is pretty great, however there’s always going to be the small chance that a book won’t work wonders that you hope it will. Try this book out for yourself and see what you think of it.
Chloe is a smart, charming and pretty girl, she knows what she wants, has such a great job, but whilst she’s incredible at her job she feels like no matter how hard she tries she’ll never be able to move up anywhere. However, luckily for her, she has dreams of opening up her own distillery, she knows how to do things, has done all the research, but when it comes to the funds, that’s where it becomes a little tricky. But thanks to her dad, the last person she ever expected to walk into her life after he betrayed her appears and is willing to go into business with her. She has no idea what to do, but all that she knows is that she can’t trust him, but with him willing to try and get her back on side, will she fall for his charm again?
