I’ve read a couple of Jessica Hawkins’ work before and I have loved each one I’ve read however, this book is completely different to her others. For one, the cover for this book alone speaks out so much compared to her other ones and whilst this is a contemporary romance book the things that happen inside is something I’ve not known or seen Jessica do before. But honestly, Jessica did a great job, I was completely absorbed into the story, the first couple of pages I wasn’t sure of as I was struggling to get into it, but after a few pages it just started flowing and I loved it. There’s so much going on in the story, you can just about keep up, but I love how it all ties together and the twists are incredible.
I did find there was a part that didn’t exactly add up, for instance when Natalia went into the club to confront Diego’s brother Cristiano it mentions all that she has on her, which is just her ID and her bank card, then a little while later when Cristiano asks if she’s armed, she mentions she has nothing on her, not even her phone. But then all of a sudden when she’s in the car with Diego a little while later, he asks if she has her phone on her and she says that she does. Now I have no idea how this is even possible and whilst it may be a small detail, it’s still a part in the story. But surely this doesn’t work as she was with her best friend when she entered the club. Other than that not adding up, I think that she did a great job and I can’t wait to see what else happens in the story.
Natalia wasn’t that old when her mother was killed, she lived in a life where she was a princess, but in a world with criminals, I know that criminals are everywhere you go, but for Natalia it is pretty much the world she grows up in. After her mother was killed, things changed and her father did what he could to keep her out of the life that he lead…. But that never stopped her from doing all that she can to find out little bits of information to keep her up to date with what was happening.
Now years later, she’s grown up to be such a smart, pretty girl and is doing what she can to no longer be part of the life her father leads. Now that she’s back home visiting her father, she’s also back for her first love, her best friend Diego. She would do anything for him, like he would her, but for some reason her father refuses to allow them to keep things from getting serious. Even though things seem to be going well now that she’s back in her loves arms, her world is about to be shook apart when her mother’s killer walks back free into her life…. She wants to know what he’s doing back as a free man when all knows is that he’s the one that killed her mother…. Will she figure out the truth or will she end up getting hurt and having everything taken away from her?
